Tokay Gecko report
Animal name: Tokay Gecko. Moko Moko. Gekko gecko.
Habitat: The Tokay Gecko lives in tropical rainforests
on cliffs and trees and as pets amongst human habitation.
What is the term of offspring?: Hatchlings
Is it endangered?: No but all gekko-geckos are at
risk and soon will be endangered.
There are two main threats to Geckos:
Predation and habitat destruction.
All New Zealand Geckos are vulnerable to predators
like hedgehogs,weasels, stoats, ferrets, cats, possums and pigs.
What does it eat?:
tokay geckos eat just about anything they can overpower.
In the wild they mostly eat insects and other lizards.
In captivity they eat things like crickets, mealworms,
cockroaches, waxworms, hornworms, silkworms and small mice.
How big does it get?: the Tokay Gecko can get to
14 inches in length.
What are its predators?: The Tokay Geckos main
predators are snakes.
Some interesting facts about the Tokay Gecko are…
They have padded toes with sticking power.
Each of its four feet has five toes.
Each toe has fine hairs 1/10 mm long,
with 5,000 hairs per sq mm each hair has
400,000 branches that end in a spatula like shape
about 1/50,000 inch long.
Each hair is strong enough to support an ant's weight.
One million hairs can support a small child.
Another interesting fact is that Tokay Geckos have
folds of skin that prevent them from casting a shadow
while resting on a tree.
By opening up the skin fold completely,
it allows them to blend in with the tree bark.
Another important feature of the Tokay is its ability to cast off its
tail in defense and later regenerate a new one.
The cast off part will continue to move for several minutes,
giving the gecko time to escape.
It takes approximately three weeks for these geckoes to
completely regenerate a new tail although it is usually never
as long as the original tail.

I am light blue like the sky
with tiny spots of rust.
My eyes, big yellow crystals
that look like specks of dust.
My great long tongue
a pink which is quite bright
although it's not that scary
it'll give you such a fright.
My claws are small but very sharp
they help with catching tea.
My great long tail as magnificent as can be and
if it gets ripped off it grows right back, oh handy!
