Giants Among Us

One day in the future I would like to be able to visit Tane Mahuta. I think it would be a very cool and fun experience as well as helping me to understand more about New Zealand's wildlife

  1. Hi Miko

My name is Allie and I am the cluster manager for Toki Pounamu. Great work with the programme so far. Good to see you have finished a few posts.
Tane Mahuta is really amazing to see in person. He truly is the giant of the forest. I am lucky enough to have seen him in person and believe me this is one massive tree!
If you stood a rugby field on its end, Tane Mahuta would be past half way of the field. Pretty massive!
How many people do you think it would take if they joined hands around the trunk of this giant?
    I think about 15-20 people?
Hopefully they are able to get the disease that is threatening the kauri trees in Northland under control. It is great that all the visitors are obeying the rules and washing their shoes when they enter and leave the forest to stop it from spreading any further.

I hope you are having a great holiday so far and that you have something fun planned with your family and friends. Its an awesome sunny day today to do something fun! Enjoy.

    Until next time

    Allie :)
